NEW YORK (News Channel Nebraska) – A Nigerian man has been sentenced for a series of email scams across the country, including taking millions from Nebraska residents and businesses.

US Attorney Joe Kelly announced that 38-year-old Pelumi Fawehinmi was sentenced Friday to 6 years in prison for Wire Fraud.

Fawehinmi was part of a scheme referred to as business e-mail compromise. He provided bank accounts to other co-conspirators who were working with businesses to defraud them.

The scheme was conducted from Nigeria where Fawehinmi was living. He was arrested during a trip to New York.

During the scheme, two Nebraska victims of the fraud lost around $160,000.
