Couple Plunges Off Highway 2 During Today’s Winter Storm

NEBRASKA CITY - A couple in a pickup truck hauling a Utah storage trailer escaped injury Thursday afternoon after they plunged off of a snow-covered Highway 2 west of Nebraska City. Norvin Kemp, 60, of Riverton, Utah, was westbound when the truck slid on ice and went down the ditch embankment. The trucked rolled over onto the driver's side, but the jack-knifed trailer was "hung up" on a large culvert. Fire and rescue assisted Kemp and a female passenger out the truck, but no one was injured. Rescue crews arrived amidst blowing snow and chilling winds near the end of a snow storm that left up to six inches of snow in the area. The sheriff's office reports up to five slide offs during the storm.
