#11 Doane Remains Unbeaten Despite 5 Turnovers

CRETE – The #11 Doane Tigers turned the ball over five times on Saturday, but managed to takeaway the ball seven times from Friends University in their home opening victory.

The defense helped lift the Tigers to a 2-0 start with a 28-13 win.

Leading 14-10, Seth Majerus’ strip sack led to a 66 yard fumble recovery for a touchdown for Connor Hughes on the final play of the first half.

Cole Wiseman’s 77 yard interception return for a touchdown sealed the victory for Doane in the fourth quarter.

The Doane defense helped support an offense that finished with only 262 yards of total offense and gave up three fumbles to go along with two interceptions.

Trev Lovell threw for 94 yards and a touchdown for Doane. Najee Mustafaa finished with 53 yards and Kyle Jensen with 52 on the ground.

Noah Diaz led things for Friends University. The freshman rushed for 111 yards and a score.

Doane will host #17 Dakota Wesleyan University next Saturday at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on NCN television and on Ol Red 99-5 radio.

Friends is now 0-2 and will host Ottawa University next week at 7 p.m.
