The community-wide event draws visitors from across the region and features everything from the River City Carnival and parade to live music, food vendors, tournaments, cultural displays and family activities.

Sherman County Economic Development Executive Director Melissa Dush said the celebration continues to grow each year thanks to strong community support and countless volunteers.

“It’s always so much fun to see it all come together after all the planning and stuff that goes into it. Because we start back in October with lining things up and it’s a lot of work, but always worth it. You look back on the weekend and you’re like, wow, we pulled it off. We did this. There was a lot of people who had a lot of fun,” said Dush.

One of the weekend’s biggest attractions will once again be the River City Carnival, which opens Friday and continues through Sunday with rides for all ages. Additional family entertainment includes an inflatable water park, bubble machine, zip line, petting zoo, dunk tank, family fishing event and a variety of games and activities throughout downtown.

Saturday’s Polish Days Parade begins at 10:30 a.m. and will showcase entries built around this year’s patriotic theme. Dush said participants have already shown plenty of creativity in their parade plans.

Food remains a major part of the celebration, with numerous vendors set up downtown throughout the weekend. Visitors can also enjoy the popular authentic Polish buffet Saturday at the Loup City Diner, featuring traditional favorites and local specialties.

Evening entertainment will keep the celebration going after dark. The Jesse Carr Band and street dance will headline Friday night at the Sons of the American Legion Beer Garden, while the Loose Cannons Band takes the stage Saturday night for another community street dance.

Beyond the entertainment, Dush emphasized that Polish Days is truly a community effort made possible by local businesses, organizations, volunteers and sponsors.

“I just want to thank our sponsors, our city workers, our committee members, everybody who comes together to put this on and make it look so easy and flawless when it all comes together right,” Dush said.

Additional highlights throughout the weekend include the craft and vendor fair, quilt show, sand volleyball tournament, pickleball tournament, boxing event, cornhole tournament, historical society activities, golf tournament and live polka music.

Visitors are encouraged to pick up an event booklet and schedule when they arrive in town or simply head downtown and join the festivities.

With three days of activities planned and thousands expected to attend, organizers are inviting everyone to come experience one of central Nebraska’s longest-running community celebrations and enjoy a weekend of Polish heritage, hometown hospitality and summer fun in Loup City.
