TAYLOR— While Nebraska struggles to find ways to recover from one of the worst natural disasters in its history, help has come in many forms. One of those forms has been schools across Nebraska holding drives, donation opportunities, and multiple other ways to help those who have been affected.
Future Farmers of America (FFA) and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapters at Loup County High School in Taylor saw an opportunity to help those affected by holding a free-will donation pancake feed on Tuesday, April 9. Pancakes, sausage, and drinks were served to all who attended at the Loup County Event Center.
Madison Guest, a junior at Loup County High School, said that while Loup County may be small, making a difference is what matters. “We just wanted to help as much as we could. We are small, but if we can make a difference, that’s what matters most.”
While counties in central Nebraska saw flooding and the loss of roads and bridges, the damage paled in comparison to the loss of towns, homes, and lives in the eastern part of the state. Helping each other is what Nebraska is known for and junior Macy Brown talked about how if the roles were reversed, we would want the help.
“If it hit us really hard we would want somebody to do this. It’s just something you do for people,” said Brown.
The two organizations sold “Nebraska Strong” t-shirts and stickers with benefits from both the sales and donations from the pancake feed going toward the flood relief fund through the Nebraska Farm Bureau.
