The General George A. Custer Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, located in Broken Bow, held their meeting on Tuesday, December 10 which included a special presentation. Gary and Donna Glendy were presented the Excellence in Community Service award for their continued work at the Seven Valleys Historical Society in Callaway.
In order to receive this award, the recipient must have done significant service in the community as well as having at least two people write letters of recommendation which is then passed through the state office.
When asked about the importance of maintaining the historical society Donna said, “This is where our ideals, our values, and the things we want to give to our children or grandchildren come from. Seeing and hearing the stories is very important.”
The Seven Valleys Historical Society is located at 102 N Grand Ave. in Callaway, NE and was first organized in 1966. Dedicated to preserving the history of Callaway and the surrounding area, the museum features multiple buildings including the main building, the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, the Seven Valleys Museum Annex, and the first courthouse of Custer County.
