CUSTER COUNTY The Custer County Ag Society held its once-a-month meeting on Thursday night at the Custer County Fairgrounds. Blair Hartman, Ashley Garrelts, and Charmayne Pop were the only members absent, the rest were present.
The board approved the January 11 regular board meeting minutes and heard from the grounds manager and the Winterball Committee.
There was no old business on the agenda so they hopped straight into the new business which started with the reclassification of bank accounts which went into executive discussion and ended at 7:36 p.m. This was to move the memorial funds into the savings account.
Building bids were tabled for barns seven and eight as no one came in to measure the area. Bids came in from Ansley Lumber, Bruce Forester with Tri States Building, G3 Contracting from Ord, Rathman & Manning Construction from Chapman, and East River Contracting from Watertown South Dakota.
Fair entertainment was discussed and bull riding will take place on Monday, bullfighting on Tuesday, and there is the possibility of a beer garden with entertainment on Wednesday for the adults and then the teen dance for the teens. The board made a motion to make an entertainment committee for the Wednesday night entertainment which will consist of Secretary, Blair Hartman, Vice President, Rodney Lamb, and Grounds Manager, Ben McCaslin. This was voted on and approved by the board.
The last topic under new business was reconnecting the Viaero internet connection. The Ag society now has Starlink internet, but that does not help them out with their sign situation. The sign is hardwired with Viaero internet, so the board approved to reactivate the Viaero internet for office use and the sign only.
Under other concerns, it was brought up that eight 8ft white rectangle tables were stolen from the Shootings Sports building. Also brought up was the idea to have a tractor pull for the kiddos after the parade.
The next meeting will be on March 14, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. in the Shooting Sports Building at the Custer County Fairgrounds.
