Raymond Sheldon age 79 of Sargent, NE passed away on June 10, 2026, at the Nebraska Veterans Health Care in Grand Island, NE.
Raymond Lee Sheldon was born on February 27, 1947, in Loup County, NE to Wilson E. and Ruby M. (Wurst) Sheldon. Raymond grew up in the Madison Square community area, graduating from Loup County High School. Raymond was drafted into the US Army. After serving his country, Raymond returned to the family ranch.
On February 16, 1990, Raymond was united in marriage to Lajean Thomsen in St. Paul, NE. The couple made their home on the family ranch. In 1999, the couple moved to North Platte where Raymond started work of Union Pacific Railroad. He retired in 2011, moving back to the family ranch.
Raymond enjoyed watching westerns, ranching and caring for the animals.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents Wilson and Ruby, and a brother LeRoy.
Raymond is survived by his wife Lajean, children Courtney Campbell (significant other Todd Norman) and her son Robert Campbell of Holdrege, Wade (Lindsey) Sheldon, and children Ella and Madilyn of Amarillo, TX, and Justin Sheldon (significant other Rhiannon Van Fleet) of Norfolk, and numerous other family members.
A Celebration of Life Reception will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Sargent Community Center in Sargent, NE. Inurnment will be held on Thursday, June 18th, at 11:00 AM at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, NE with Military Honors.
