Monte Gies, a longtime resident of Broken Bow, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on September 16, 2026, at Callaway Hospital following complications from an illness. He was 72 years old.

Monte was born on May 25, 1954, to Theodore and Martha Hill Gies. Throughout his life, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. To his family, Monte was the rock they could always count on—the one who showed up, no matter the distance, and a man whose love and presence meant so much to everyone around him.

Monte had a love for the outdoors, adventure, and the simple things that made life meaningful. He enjoyed riding his Harley, attending Mountain Man Rendezvous events, hunting, fishing, and spending time tinkering in his shop. He especially loved attending the Sturgis Bike Rally and taking in the beauty of the Black Hills. These adventures created memories that his family and friends will carry with them for years to come.

Monte was preceded in death by his first wife, Waleta Lou Stewart Gies whom he married on June 23, 1979; his parents, Theodore and Martha Gies; and his brothers, Jerry Gies and Bradley Gies.

He is survived by his wife, Lucinda; his children, Terry Gies, M. Scott and wife Melody Gies, and Teresa Dodd; his grandsons, Tony Dodd and wife Krystal, William Dodd and wife Natasha, Kirksey Dodd and wife Zoe, Abraham Gies, Jeremiah Gies, and Silas Gies; granddaughters, Destiny Lloyd and husband Ryan, and Hadassah Gies; numerous great-grandchildren; his brothers, Brian and wife Debra Gies and Kelly and wife Reba Gies; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Monte leaves behind a legacy of love, family, adventure, and memories that will never be forgotten. He was a man who could be counted on, a man who loved his family deeply, and the rock that held many hearts together.

His family will forever cherish the rides, the stories, the time spent together, and all the little moments that made Monte who he was. Though he has taken his final ride, his memory will continue to live on through the many people who loved him.

Monte will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of his family and friends.
