Edwin E Chalupa, age 93, a resident of Sargent, Nebraska passed away Sunday January 28th at Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell, Nebraska.
Edwin was born August 1, 1930, on the family farm east of Sargent, he was the youngest of 5 boys born to the late Lewis and Josie (Klapal) Chalupa.
As a young boy Edwin attended Phillipsburg District 36 Country School and graduated from Sargent High School, Class of 1948.
On May 24, 1953, Edwin was united in marriage to Shirley Skolil, to this union six children were born: Kathryn (Dave) Pfeiffer; Edwin Jr, William Chalupa; Julie (Martin) Riddle; Robert (Carol) Chalupa; and Debra (Max) Emerton.
Edwin was drafted in June of 1953 and enlisted in the United States Army. He attended boot camp at Camp Fungston in Fort Riley, Kansas. He was deployed to Germany where he performed culinary duties for 18 months. He was honorably discharged in 1955. After his discharge he returned home to farm for a few more years, then working for Farmers Coop, Sargent Alfalfa Mill, Northern Propane, and retiring from Great Western Gas Company after 20 years of Service. Edwin took pleasure in all the customers he delivered to, he loved talking propane and was known as the Propane Carburetion Specialist of the area.
Edwin enjoyed traveling to Canada, Mexico, and across the U.S. with his wife Shirley, one of his favorite trips was an Alaskan Cruise. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, visiting, (he never knew a stranger) tinkering in his shop (he loved taking things apart to see how they worked). He enjoyed planting a large garden, and his Orchard of Peach trees out of seeds from Colorado. He definitely had a green thumb. He was a avid lover of Polka Music and very proud of his Czech Heritage.
Edwin and Shirley celebrated 70 years of Marriage in May.
He was a member of VFW POST 1355, American Legion Post 104. Edwin was a devoted husband and father, who will be remembered by his kind and compassionate spirit.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Julie and infant son Edwin Jr, his parents, his four brothers and their wives, Edward (Rosie) Chalupa, Frank (Libby) Chalupa, Leonard (Alice) Chalupa and Eldon (Carol) Chalupa.
Edwin is survived by his wife of 70 years, their four children, 13 Grandchildren; Mike (Erica) Riddle; Jeremy Riddle, Justina (Josh) Barker; Ryan (Michaela) Pfeiffer; Nathan (Kati) Pfeiffer; Aaron (Krista) Pfeiffer; Kodi (Jay) Walter; Christine (Dakota) Corbin; Nicole Chalupa, Adam (Staci) Emerton; Matthew (Camille) Emerton; Eric Chalupa and Sarah Griffin. 15 Great Grandchildren; Hayden Pfeiffer, Taytum Pfeiffer, Tariq Pfeiffer, Brooklyn Pfeiffer, Mason Pfeiffer, Sarah Riddle, Madison Barker, Klayton Barker, Jordan Emerton, Jaxx Stefka, Jace Stefka, Alexis Tucker, Alyssa Tucker, Riggin Corbin and Journey Corbin.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, March 15, 2024, at 10:30 am at the United Methodist Church in Sargent, Nebraska, with Reverend Spencer Johnson officiating with Military Honors. Online condolences may be left at govierbrothers.com
