Melvin Peterson age 90, of Weissert, NE passed away on September 9, 2026.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Govier
Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, NE. Burial will follow in the Lone Tree Cemetery in
Weissert. Memorials are suggested to the Weissert Church. A visitation and time to
greet the family will be held on Monday, September 14 th, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at Govier
Brothers Mortuary. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Online

Melvin Leroy Peterson was born on June 9, 1936, in Weissert, NE to Milton “Pete” and Wilma (Barnes) Peterson. Melvin grew up in the Weissert Community, graduating in 1954 from Westerville High School. After high school, Melvin went to work with his dad on the farm.
On December 24, 1955, Melvin was united in marriage to Donnah Catlett. Melvin and Donnah made their home on the farm with Pete and Wilma. Melvin farmed in the Weissert area his entire life. Melvin had a Hay Stacking and Hauling business. In Melvin’s eyes this was a hobby.
Melvin enjoyed bird watching, all animals and helping the neighbors in the community.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents Pete and Wilma, brother Norman Peterson, sister Jeanette Lacey, son-in-law Rick Svoboda, and two grandsons Nick Svoboda and Ryan Peterson.
Melvin is survived by his wife Donnah of Broken Bow, son Craig Peterson of Weissert,
daughter Cynthia Svoboda of Hastings, grandchildren Amber (Peterson) and husband
Jason Lamb of Merna and Kimberly Svoboda of Hastings, six great-grandchildren, one
great-great-grandchild, sister-in-law Doris Peterson, brother-in-law John Lacey, sisters-
in-law Sharon (Kelvin) Dowse, Doris (Karl) Kaelin, and Betty (Curt) Sillivan, many
nieces, nephew, friends, and neighbors.
