Viola Mae Hunt, 92, of Arcadia passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024; while residing at Rose Lane Home in Loup City, Nebraska.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2024; at the Faith Bible Church in Arcadia, Nebraska. Pastor Ray Berry and Pastor Marlin Hawley will officiate. Burial will be in Lee Park Cemetery west of Arcadia. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Arcadia Volunteer Fire and Rescue Unit or Faith Bible Church. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Viola Mae was born April 14, 1931; at Ord, Nebraska to Ralph and Lyla (Stone) Holmes. When Viola was five years old her mother passed away. She then lived with her grandparents in Valley and Custer Counties and with her Dad in Washington. She received her education at rural country schools and Arcadia Public School.
On July 12, 1948, Viola was united in marriage to Byron Eugene Hunt in Grand Island, Nebraska. The couple lived in several places in Valley County before moving to a farm by Clear Creek in Custer County in 1952. They lived on the farm until 1993, when they moved into Arcadia. Byron passed away in 2007, and a few years later Viola returned to Custer County to live near her daughter, Marilyn. Later Viola moved to Hawthorne Manor in Arcadia and has resided at Rose Lane Home in Loup City since October of 2023.
Viola was a member of the Mission Circle, Garden Club, Son Beams, extension clubs and worked on the election board. She enjoyed puzzles, gardening, crocheting, fishing; and camping in the Colorado Mountains. She especially enjoyed the time spent with her family and writing poetry. Viola was a faithful prayer warrior for family, missionaries and church family.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Teri Hunt of Broken Bow, and Ed Hunt of Arcadia; four daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Mike Rice of Ord, Linda and Darrel Johnson of Aurora, Marilyn and Chuck Riggins of Arcadia and Shirley and Marlin Hawley of Weirton, West Virginia; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law; Betty Johnson of Tumwater, Washington; and a sister-in-law, Kathy Holmes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Byron; four brothers, Jim, Roy, Don and Jerry Holmes; and a sister, Leah Hunt.
