Funeral services will be Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 10:30 am at the Homeward Trail Bible Camp at Mason City, NE with Pastor Scott Harvey officiating. Burial will be in the Mason City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Homeward Trail Bible Camp. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023, family greeting 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Glenn Laverne Sawyer was born on September 23, 1944, to Ralph and Mary (Vore) Sawyer in Bassett, NE. He passed away January 24, 2023, surrounded by loved ones at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE. He was the youngest of 5 children. He graduated from Nebraska Christian High School and later attended Kearney State Teachers College. After graduating college, Glenn taught music at Eustis Schools for five years. He rented a room from an old German couple and fondly remembered her homemade meals. While at Eustis he made many friends and made a lasting impression on his students. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Tyma on January 27, 1973. To this union 3 children, Beth, Scott, and Kurt were born.
After teaching school, he pursued a number of careers including farming, owning and operating a feed store and trucking business, and finally retired from the postal service as a rural mail carrier. He enjoyed coffee by the gallon, classic cars, and spending time with good friends and family. Music remained a big part of his life as well as reading any book someone gave to him. He was an active member in many community organizations in Mason City. He was most known for his witty sense of humor. He most enjoyed being a part of his grandchildren’s activities. Some of his favorites included the kid’s music performances.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marilyn, his sister Linda and her husband Eldon Shoemaker, brother Kenneth Sawyer, brothers-in-law Emil and Richard Tyma, sister-in-law Carole Oseka, and special friend Mary-Jo Ahrens.
He is survived by his children Beth (Craig) Schuler and their children Brenna, Everett, Joseph. His son Scott (Arlene) Sawyer and their children Michelle and Maddison. His youngest son Kurt (Kalla) Sawyer and their children Lauren and Morgan. Other survivors include brother Kay (Della) Sawyer, sister Carol (Garry) Squier, sisters-in-law Karen Sawyer and Ruth and Judy Tyma. As well as many nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
