Darlene (Haddix) Stunkel, 80, of Kearney died Friday, Oct. 29, 2021, at CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday November 3rd at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Interment will follow at Kearney Cemetery. Darlene was born April 22, 1941, in Ansley to Delmar and Louise (Hastings) Haddix. She was raised near Mason City and attended Mason City High School, graduating with the class of 1959.
On May 21, 1961, Darlene married Dale W. Stunkel in Ansley. To this marriage two children were blessed.
Together, the couple owned and operated D’s Shoe Hospital in Lincoln and later the Kearney Shoe Hospital and Saddle Repair until Dale’s passing in 2009.
Darlene was a member of Living Faith Fellowship Church and was a longtime volunteer at the Petersen Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include her daughter, Dalene (Steve) Palmesano of Lincoln; son, Dwight (Laura) Stunkel of Lincoln; grandchildren, Lauren and Joshua Palmesano; stepgranddaughter, Kristen (Jeff) Zimmerman; great-grandchildren, Hayven Danielson; stepgreat-grandchildren, Hailey and Emmitt Zimmerman; siblings, Clyde Haddix of Phoenix, Arizona, Leo Haddix of Gibbon; and sister-in-law, Linda Haddix of Broken Bow.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale Stunkel; one brother, Randy Haddix; and Ione (Rhode) Turner.
