Esther Yeates passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026 at about 5pm after a month long fight with a variety of ailments.

She was a celebrated teacher of 32 years, mostly in Mason City, a loving daughter, sister, Mom, and Grandma.  She had a lasting impact on all facets of her life professional and personal.

She inspired a love of learning in so many, including countless former students, her son Karl, and her grandchildren.  She had a wry colorful sense of humor, was mentally sharp, and fiercely independent.  She loves to talk and could tell a great story.

For the last 12 years Esther grew particularly close to her son Karl after she moved to Florida to be closer to family.  She helped him raise the children and was instrumental in their success in school, sports, and personal life.

She was deeply religious, believed in heaven, and was looking forward to seeing her parents and brothers who preceded her in death.  No doubt, she is enjoying being with them.

We will all miss her terribly, specifically her daily afternoon calls, the game of spoons, her art and sewing projects, her intellect, and sense of humor.  Rest in peace.

A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist church in Mason City, Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 11am.  Lunch will follow in the same location.
