Broken Bow, NE- Darlene Bessie Wolsleben age 98 of Broken Bow, died Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the Brookestone View Care Home in Broken Bow.
Darlene was born on May 21, 1928, at Sargent, Nebraska to Oscar and Eva (Grisham) Anderson at her Uncle Ray and Aunt Bessie’s home. She grew up in Sargent and attended Sargent schools. Right out of school Darlene went to work for the phone company as an operator. On October 15, 1946, she was united in marriage to Gaylord Wolsleben at Philipsburg, KS. The couple made their home in Sargent. Five children were born: Donna, Vicki, Linda “Suz”, Carl, and Cindy. Darlene drove a school bus for many years, worked at Jack n’ Jill Grocery Store, Sargent Feed and Grain, and at the NFO. Gaylord died in 1973. Darlene remained in Sargent for a few years before moving to Alliance, NE. While at Alliance she was employed at the grocery store. Darlene later moved to Lexington to help care for her son Carl. After Carl passed away, she moved to Broken Bow.
Darlene is survived by her daughters; Donna (Roger) Wenquist of Broken Bow, Vicki (Lyle) Hendrickson of Omaha, Linda “Suz” Wolsleben of Denver, daughter-in-law Maxine Wolsleben of Lexington and son-in-law Mark Larsen of Broken Bow. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 7 great great-grandchildren with one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Carl, daughter Cindy and grandson James Wilkinson.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, NE. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at 1:00 PM. A register book will be available to sign on Sunday, June 14th from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
