Alice Tobey age 66, of Merna, NE passed away May 13, 2026, at the Kearney Regional Hospital in Kearney, NE after a five and half year battle with cancer.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, NE. Burial will follow in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Nebraska Medicine Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center in Kearney, NE. A visitation and time to greet the family will be held on Wednesday, May 20th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Alice Eva (Barta) Tobey was born on December 6, 1959, to Donald and Mary (Loeffelholz) Barta/Andersen/Gillming in Callaway, NE. Alice went to grade school in Kearney, NE. Then attending and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1979. Alice worked at Bow Bakery for many years, at the Heritage Hall in Housekeeping.
Alice met Rollin Tobey in Broken Bow on a evening out on the town. The couple dated for four years before they were united in marriage on October 16, 1993, at the Broken Bow United Methodist Church. The couple lived in Kearney, where Alice worked at the Retirement Center in housekeeping, and Rollin worked for S & S Farms. The couple moved to Merna in 2020. Alice did housekeeping for the elderly. Alice enjoyed flowers, family, embroidery, crossword puzzles, copying recipes, and was a great baker.
Alice was preceded in death by parents Donald Barta, Alfred Chris Andersen and Mary Andersen Gillming, siblings Edward Andersen, Daniel Andersen, and Thomas (Linda) Barta, great nephew Cinch, and in-laws Delbert and Jenevie Tobey.
Alice is survived by husband Rollin Tobey of Merna, siblings James Barta of Broken Bow, Darlene Barrera of California, Dianna (Ken) Berns of Broken Bow, Dorothy Andersen of Junction City, KS, brothers and sisters-in-law Dallas Tobey of North Platte, Ronald (Kim) Tobey of Merna, and Delores (Leon) Freidrichsen of Lexington, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
