The 23rd Sandhills Open Road Challenge, the 55 mile rally open road race through the scenic Nebraska Sandhills between Arnold and Dunning, took place Saturday.
Participants competed in 12 different speed classes. The winners of each class were announced on Saturday evening.
The extreme 90 mph class was won by Trenton Zessin of Malcolm, NE and navigator Jerrid Halvorsen who averaged a speed of 87.3 mph.
RT Green of Arnold and navigator Lindy Dailey claimed the title in the extreme 120 class with an average speed 98.898 mph.
The 80 mph class was won by Bill Meyer of Russellville, MO and navigator Rich Maxwell who were +.359 seconds off perfect.
Winners of the vintage 85 class were Cy Nightingale and navigator Jay Nightingale of Sheridan, CO. The team finished -.245 seconds off perfect.
Bret Korth of Lincoln, NE with navigator John Fistler won the 90 mph class finishing +.106 seconds off perfect.
Champions in the 95 mph class were Zac Rustad and Mike McCullough of Lincoln, NE. The duo was -.029 seconds off perfect time.
Clare Kurz of Palmer, NE and navigator Matt Kurz won the 100 mph class finishing -.113 seconds off perfect.
Mike Black of Garland, TX was a repeat champion in the 105 mph class. Black was +.075 seconds off perfect.
Eric Schmidt of Lincoln, NE won the 110 mph with an amazing run finishing -.001 seconds off perfect.
Ryan Furstenau of Neligh, NE and navigator Rich Clements won the 115 mph class finishing -.354 seconds off perfect.
Jared Helge of Fort Wayne, IN and navigator Matthew Helge took first in the 120 mph class coming in at -.591 seconds off perfect.
The 125 mph class was won by Ted Hughes of Seward, NE with navigator Cody Jantz as they finished at -2.23 seconds off perfect.
