Twin Loup Fall Sports Preview

The Twin Loup football and volleyball teams were represented this past Sunday at the Custer County Chief Fall Sports Media Bash.

Head football coach Mike Kozeal returns as head coach of the Twin Loup Wolves the sports co-op between Sargent and Loup County.  Combined with his years as Sargent head coach this will mark Kozeal’s 27th season as head coach.  The Wolves were a state playoff qualifier in 2023 and advanced to the 2nd round of the D2 playoffs.  Coach Kozeal said he is proud of the work this year’s group has put in and is excited to see what they can accomplish this season.

“This year we are really happy with what we have.  Happy with the way the first  two weeks of practice have went.  We have 30 kids out so we have a nice mix of experience in upper classmen along with some really talented younger kids that are going to push and provide depth and help the team that way.  As far as goals for the team, I think our goal every year is to have a winning record and make the state playoffs.  I think this team has the potential to win some games in the playoffs so we will see what we can do.”

Twin Loup begins the season hosting St. Mary’s on Friday.

The Twin Loup volleyball team looks to build on a 17-13 record from a year ago and a runner up finish in the MNAC tournament.  Coach Tami Phillips shared what she believes to be the strength of the team right now as they prepare to start the season.

“We have a lot of strength in our seniors.  They are starting to provide a little bit more leadership than they did even at the beginning of summer.  The other thing is I have switched my lineup so much all ready and they are willing to try it.  For me, that’s good that they are able to go on the fly if I decide to change anything and their willing to change that and be adaptable.  That’s huge this year.”

Twin Loup is scheduled to start the season Thursday when they host Stuart.
