The NSAA Releases Girls State Basketball Tournament Bracket – Broken Bow and Anselmo-Merna are the #4 Seed

The Nebraska School Activities Association released Wednesday the bracket and official pairings for the 2022 NSAA girls state basketball championships which begin Monday (3/7).

Broken Bow, making their 2nd consecutive appearance at the state tournament, is the #4 seed in Class C1.  The Lady Indians will open against a very familiar opponent – Gothenburg.  The Lady Swedes are appearing at the state tournament for the first time since 2004.  This will be the fourth meeting between the two teams this season.  Broken Bow has won the previous three encounters winning the regular season matchup 40-35, winning in the SWC championship game 50-20, and winning in the C1-10 sub district championship game 43-27.  The winner will advance to the state semifinals where they will face the winner of top seed Lincoln Lutheran vs BRLD (Bancroft Rosalie Lyons Decatur).  Broken Bow and Gothenburg will play their state quarterfinal on Monday at the Devaney Center in Lincoln.  Tip off time is scheduled for 10:45 a.m.  Central Nebraska’s Sports Source (KCNI/KBBN) will have live radio coverage of all Broken Bow games from the tournament.  Monday’s game will be broadcast on KCNI 1280 AM / 96.3 FM and kcni1280.com.

Anselmo-Merna, making their first appearance at the state tournament since 2006, is the #4 seed in Class D2.  The Coyotes are 19-6 this season and will face 19-6 Sterling in the opening round on Monday.  The game will be played at Lincoln Northeast High School and is scheduled to tip off at 10:45 a.m.  The two teams last played one another in 2020 when they met in the D2-7 district championship.  Sterling won the game 39-35.  The winner will advance to the state semifinals on Wednesday where they would face the winner of top seed Falls City Sacred Heart vs Wynot.  Monday’s game between Anselmo-Merna and Sterling (and all AM games from the tournament) will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and on kbbn.com
