State Track Final Day – Area Recap – Luke Bailey of A/L State Champ in 300 Meter Hurdles

The 2025 NSAA state track and field championships came to its conclusion on Saturday with the final day of competition in classes C and D.

Among the area highlights, Ethan Furne of South Loup was the state runner up in the Class C boys long jump.  Furne jumped a personal best and set a new school record with an effort of 22′ 6″ to finish second.  The event was won by Zavier Mitchell of Alma who went 22′ 6.5″ on his final attempt of the tournament.  Cohen Rohde of SEM medaled in the Classt D boys discus.  Rohde placed 4th with an effort of 153′ 4″.

In the running events, the top area highlight of the day was turned in by Luke Bailey of Ansley/Litchfield who claimed the state championship in the Class D boys 300 meter hurdles.  Bailey claimed the gold medal with a winning time of 39.84 seconds.  Connor Sutton of Sandhills/Thedford medaled in the Class D boys 800 placing 7th with a time of 2:02.81.  Addie Critel of Burwell medaled in the Class D girls 800 placing 7th with a time of 2:24.70.  Mieke Van der walt of Burwell was the state runner up in the Class D girls 300 meter hurdles in a time of 45.42 seconds.  Van der walt picked up the third place medal in the Class D girls 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.77 seconds.   Tyce Calleroz of Arcadia/Loup City was a state medalist in the Class C boys 100.  Calleroz placed 6th in a time of 11.41 seconds.  Peyton Paxton of Mullen medaled in 8th place in the Class D girls 1600 meter run placing 8th in a time of 5:34.76.
