State Track Day One Area Recap – Broken Bow’s Drew Ellis Medals in 7th Place in Class B Boys Shot Put

The state track and field championships started Wednesday with the opening day of competition for Classes A and B.

Among the area highlights on day one, Broken Bow’s Drew Ellis became a state medalist in the Class B boys shot put.  After fouling on his first two attempts, Ellis connected on his third attempt going 54′ 6″ which vaulted  him into sixth place at the time and a spot in the event finals.  After the finals, Ellis’ best effort would remain 54′ 6″ and earned him the 7th place state medal in the event.  Broken Bow freshman Aiden Page also competed in the Class B boys shot put.  Page’s best effort at the state tournament was 47′ 4.25″.  The event was won by Eli Shada of Wahoo with a winning effort of 59′ 11.75″.

Broken Bow’s Charlee Myers competed in the Class B girls pole vault on Wednesday.  Myers was the first Broken Bow track athlete to compete in the girls pole vault at state.  Myers cleared 9′ 6″ to finish 16th overall at the state tournament.  The state gold medal went to  Amarae Krafka of Northwest clearing 12′ 6″.

The Broken Bow girls 4×800 meter relay team competed at the state meet on the opening day of competition.  The team of Lauryn Hansen, Ashlyn Schauda, Izzy Shelton, and Halle Quinn posted a time of 10:19.65 at the state meet.  The event was won by Elkhorn North with a winning time of 9:20.03.

Other area notes from day one, Bryson Neels of Gothenburg was the state runner up in the Class B boys 400 in a time of 48.84 seconds.  Chayden Hoffmaster of Cozad claimed the 4th place medal in the Class B boys triple jump with an effort of 45′ 1.5″.  Evan Johnson of Gothenburg qualified for the finals of the Class B boys 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.29 seconds.  Bryson Snider of Cozad qualified for the finals of the Class B boys 100 meter dash in a time of 10.9 seconds.

The NSAA state track and field championships continue Thursday with the final day of competition for Classes A and B.  Broken Bow’s Gunner Baltz and Drew Ellis will compete in the Class B boys discus which is scheduled for noon tomorrow.  Listen for updates throughout the day on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com.
