The 2025 NSAA state track and field championships began Wednesday at Burke Stadium in Omaha with opening day competition in Classes A and B.
Broken Bow’s Keelyn Shea claimed a state medal in the Class B girls discus. The senior medaled in 7th place with a top effort of 119′ which came on her opening throw of the tournament. The winner of the Class B girls discus was Erin Briggs of Columbus Lakeview with a winning effort of 132′ 4″. Broken Bow’s Drew Ellis competed in the Class B boys shot put. The sophomore finished 12th overall at the state meet with an effort of 48′ 10.75″. The winner of the Class B boys shot put was Eli Shada of Wahoo with a winning effort of 57′ 8.5″. Broken Bow competed in the Class B girls 4×800 meter relay. The team of Halle Quinn, Ashlyn Schauda, Gaby Staples, and Maren Chapin finished 13th overall with a time of 10:06.27. Winning the event was Elkhorn North in a time of 9:31.28. Klarissa Dowdy of Broken Bow competed in the prelims of the Class B girls 100 meter hurdles. Dowdy posted a time of 15.62 seconds. It took a time of 15.48 to make the finals. Maren Chapin competed in the Class B girls 400. Chapin posted a time of 1:01.19. The event was won by Story Rasby of Ogallala in a time of 56.12 seconds.
In other area notes, Gothenburg medaled in the Class B boys 4×800 meter relay. The team of Yahriel Gaeta, Carson Reiman, Tyler Hetz, and Bryson Neels placed 7th with a time of 8:10.94. Tyler Hetz of Gothenburg medaled in the Class B boys 3200 meter run placing 6th with a time of 9:35.38. Bryson Snider of Cozad qualified for the finals of the Class B boys 100 meter dash. Snider had the 4th fastest qualifying time at 10.90 seconds.
The state track and field championships continue Thursday with the final day of competition for Classes A and B. In Thursday’s field events, Broken Bow’s Janae Marten will compete in the Class B girls shot put at 9:30. Coy Wardyn will compete in the Class B boys pole vault and Gunner Baltz will compete in the Class B boys discus at noon. On the track for Broken Bow Thursday, Klarissa Dowdy will run in the finals of the girls Class B 300 meter hurdles at 4:40 and Broken Bow will compete in the Class B girls 4×400 meter relay at 5:55 p.m.
