State Track Day Four (Final Day Classes C and D) – Area Recap – Anselmo-Merna Boys Class D Team Runner-up

The NSAA state track and field championships came to its conclusion Saturday with the final day of competition for Classes C and D.  The Anselmo-Merna Coyotes claimed the Class D boys team runner up trophy.  AM finished second in the team standings with 52 points.  Dundy County Stratton won the Class D boys team title with 75 points.  Burwell finished in the top five of the Class D girls team standings placing 4th with 42 points.  The Class D girls team champion was Dundy County Stratton with 70 points.

The top area highlights on the day included Anselmo-Merna winning the state championship in the Class D boys 4×100 meter relay.  The team of Trevor Duryea, Destrey White, Dane Duryea, and Colin Wright posted a championship winning time of 43.53 seconds.

Sandhills/Thedford’s Connor Sutton became a state champion.  Sutton took gold in the Class D boys 800 meters in a winning time of 1:57.87.  In the Class D girls 800 meters, Addison Critel of Burwell was the state champion in a winning time of 2:22.76.

Other area highlights Saturday included, Anselmo-Merna’s Trevor Duryea and Destrey White each medaling in the Class D boys long jump.  Duryea placed third with a jump of 20′ 11.5″ and White placed 7th with a jump of 20′ 4.5″.   AM’s Caenyn Priest and Tim Myers each medaled in the Class D boys 110 meter hurdles placing 6th and 7th respectively.  Priest would also medal in the 300 meter hurdles placing 8th.  Colin Wright of Anselmo-Merna was the state runner-up in the Class D boys 200 meter dash with a time of 22.78 seconds and placed fifth in the Class D boys 100 meter dash.  Oran Grint of Twin Loup claimed the 8th place medal in the 200.

Mullen (Alex Werner, Brandon Hardin, Nick Gonzalez, and Cayden Hampton) claimed the sixth place medal in the Class D boys 4×400 meter relay with a time of 3:32.81.

Mieke van der Walt of Burwell was the state runner up in the Class D girls 100 meter hurdles and also placed 2nd in the Class D girls 300 meter hurdles.  Addison Critel of Burwell was 4th in the Class D girls 1600.  Burwell placed 2nd in the Class D girls 4×400 meter relay.
