State Track Day Four – Area Recap

The 2024 NSAA state track and field championships came to their conclusion on Saturday with the final day of competition for classes C and D.

Recapping some of the area highlights from Saturday, Taryn Arbuthnot of SEM was the silver medalist in the Class D girls high jump. Arbuthnot was one of three competitors to clear the winning height of 5’2″. When the bar was raised to 5’4″ all three remaining competitors were unable to clear the height which sent the competition to the tie break criteria. Ann Bose of Southern Valley was declared the state champion, Arbuthnot was second, and Amber Sucha of Niobrara/Verdigre was third. Cohen Rohde of SEM took the third place medal in the Class D boys discus. Rohde’s top effort on the day was 152’1″. Quincy Ryker of Twin Loup claimed the sixth place medal in the Class D boys pole vault clearing 13′.

On the track Saturday,
Harper Andersen was the 7th place medalist in the Class D girls 800 meter run in a time of 2:27.33. Logan Recoy of South Loup claimed the 8th place medal in the Class C boys 800 in a time of 2:02.33. Chase Gracey of Mullen and Luke Bailey of Ansley/Litchfield each medaled in the Class D boys 110 meter hurdles. Gracey was third in a time of 15.32 and Bailey placed 5th in a time of 15.53. Quincy Ryker of Twin Loup took the 6th place medal in the Class D boys 100 meter dash in a time of 11.10. Peyton Paxton of Mullen claimed the 5th place medal in the Class D girls 1600 in a time of 5:38.19.  Mieka van der Walt of Burwell medaled in both hurdles events placing 4th in the Class D girls 300 meter hurdles and 8th in the 100 meter hurdles.  In the Class D boys 300 meter hurdles, three area competitors finished in the top 5.  Chase Gracey of Mullen was third in a time of 40.89 seconds, Luke Bailey of Ansley/Litchfield was fourth in a time of 41.29 and Ryan Bailey of Ansley/Litchfield was fifth in a time of 41.51.

Burwell and Sandhills/Thedford each medal3ed in the Class D girls 4×100 meter relay. The S/T team of Anna Clark, Charlsie Teahon, Dayle Haake, and Kallan Cox finished 7th in a time of 52.17 seconds. The Burwell team of Katie Hughes, Regan Smith, Aiva Koenigsberg, and Mieke van der Walt finished 8th in a time of 52.35.
