State Track Day 3 – Area Recap

The 2024 NSAA state track and field championships continued Friday with the opening day of competition for Classes C and D.

Recapping some of the area highlights from Friday. The top area highlight of the day came in the Class D boys high jump where Justin Folkers of Twin Loup won the gold medal with a winning height of 6’5″. There were three competitors remaining when the bar went to 6’7″ but Folkers was the only competitor that did not have a miss entering the height. With neither competitor able to clear 6’7″, Folkers was decalared the state champion on tie break critieria. In other area highlights from the field events on Friday, Arena Fetty of Sandhills/Thedford medaled in 6th place in the Class D girls discus with an effort of 117’4″.

On the track Friday, Mullen medaled in 5th place in the girls 4×800 meter relay. The team of Peyton Paxton, Orabella Heaton, Riley Hegland, and Harper Andersen posted a time of 10:22.58 seconds.  Peyton Paxton of Mullen claimed the silver medal in the Class D girls 3200 meter run.  Her runner-up time was 12:04.29.

Mieka van der Walt of Burwell qualified for the finals in the Class D girls 100 meter hurdles.  Van der Walt had the fastest qualifying time at 15.15 seconds.  Luke Bailey of Ansley/Litchfield and Chase Gracey of Mullen each qualified for the finals in the Class D boys 110 meter hurdles.  Bailey had the 2nd fastest qualifying time at 15.32 seconds and Gracey had the 4th fastest qualifying time at 15.46.  Quincy Ryker of Twin Loup qualified for the finals in the Class D boys 100 meter dash.   Ryker had the 6th fastest qualifying time at 11.05 seconds.
