The 2025 NSAA state track and field championships continued Friday with the opening day of competition for classes C and D.
Among the area highlights, Trevor Duryea of Anselmo-Merna was the silver medalist in the Class D boys triple jump. The AM freshman went 43′ 5.5″ to finish second at the state meet. The champion was Brodey Spurling of High Plains Community with a winning jump of 44′ 6.5″. Colin Wright of Anselmo-Merna and Justin Folkers of Twin Loup each medaled in the Class D boys high jump. They both finished in a tie for fifth clearing 6′ 2″. Lily Thornton of Anselmo-Merna medaled in the Class D girls discus. Thornton placed 6th with an effort of 117′ 4″. Ragan Mauler of Twin Loup was a state medalist in the Class D girls long jump. Mauler placed 6th with an effort of 16′ 1.25″. Evalynn Wonch of South Loup medaled in the Class C girls discus. Wonch placed eighth with an effort of 112′ 10″.
In the running events, Mullen and Burwell each placed in the Class D girls 4×800 meter relay. Mullen was fifth followed by Burwell in sixth. The Mullen team of Harper Andersen, Riley Hegland, Ady Hampton, and Peyton Paxton posted a time of 10:12.73 and the Burwell team of Laurel Mann, Jalise Busch, Jessica Dawe, Addie Critel posted a time of 10:15.16. Mieke Van der walt of Burwell qualified for the finals of the Class D girls 100 meter hurdles with a qualifying time of 15.4 seconds. Tyce Calleroz of Arcadia/Loup City qualified for the finals of the Class C boys 100 meter dash with a qualifying time of 11.07 seconds. Mullen medaled two athletes in the Class D girls 3200 meter run. Peyton Paxton was fifth with a time of 11:59.49 and Riley Hegland was eighth with a time of 12:07.99.
