State Football Playoff Brackets for Classes D1 and D2 Released

The Nebraska School Activities Association has released the bracket and pairings for the Class D1 and D2 state football playoffs which begin on Thursday. For the First Round of the playoffs, the 32 qualifying teams are placed on two 16-team brackets. Beginning with the school located the farthest west, schools to the east are added unitl the pre-determined number of schools (16) for each bracket is reached. North and South distances
are not considered. The 16 teams on each bracket are seeded 1 through 16 by the point system and the point system tie breaker. The sixteen first round winning teams will then be re-seeded 1 through 16 on a statewide bracket using the regular season point system and point system tie breaker.

In Class D2, Sandhills/Thedford is the #2 seed in the west bracket. The Knights finished the regular season at 7-1 with their only loss to Hitchcock County who is the top seeded team in the west bracket. S/T will host Hyannis in the opening round. Twin Loup is in the playoffs. The Wolves finished the regular season at 6-2 and are the #7 seed in the west bracket. Twin Loup will host Elgin Public Pope John in the opening round. South Loup finished the regular season on a 4 game winning streak to finish 5-3. The Bobcats are the #9 seed in the D2 west bracket and will travel to face the defending state champion Kenesaw in the opening round. Mullen ended the regular season at 4-4 and make the playoffs as the #12 seed in the D2 west bracket. The Broncos will be on the road in the first round as they face the #5 seed Elm Creek.

In Class D1, Sandhills Valley is the #4 seed in the west bracket.  The Mavericks completed an outstanding regular season at 7-1 with their only loss to top ranked North Platte St. Pat’s.  Sandhills Valley will host Sandy Creek in the opening round.
