An assembly was held at the Arnold high school gym to celebrate South Loup football standout Rio Remund’s letter of intent signing to join the Chadron State College football program. Remund was an all state performer this past season for South Loup, the sports coop between Callaway and Arnold. Remund was honored as a first team all state football selection by several publications across the state. He was a Class D2 first team defensive selection by the Omaha World Herald which also recognized him as the honorary captain of the defensive unit for his dominant play on the defensive line this season. Following the special letter of intent signing celebration, KCNI/KBBN sports visited with Remund about his decision to sign with Chadron State football. When asked what drew him to Chadron State he referenced the CSC coaching staff and the way he and his family was treated.
“I love the coaching staff. They treated me very well. They treated my mom real well and it’s also close. It has the programs I want to study and go play some good football.”
This past season South Loup completed an undefeated regular season, was district champions and qualified for the Class D2 state football semifinals. While South Loup enjoyed a lot of success during Remund’s junior and senior seasons, that wasn’t always the case when he was a freshman and sophomore. Remund talked about his high school football journey with his teammates.
“We were all working very hard. We kind of started from the bottom essentially. We went 0-15 through freshman and sophomore year and then finally won a game and got some confidence. We knew what it was going to take so it was pretty easy. We were all working hard together so it makes it a lot easier.”
Remund thanked the community for the turnout for his signing and for their support.
“Great! I mean it’s in a small town so everybody knows everybody. This is probably the only thing going on it town today so everybody was here. Everybody was here supporting me and that’s great. It makes a big difference just to feel that support.”
