Opening round action in the Mid Nebraska Activities Conference boys basketball tournament took place on Tuesday with first round games played in Stapleton and Arnold. In Arnold, Twin Loup defeated Mullen 64-26. Ten players scored for Twin Loup led by Yahya Harris who finished with a game high 16 points. Luqman Harris, Carter Hall, and Jackson Hall also finished in double figures for the Wolves each scoring 10 points. Mullen was led by Daniel Wright and Ben Werner who both finished with 10 points. Twin Loup will face #2 seed South Loup in the semifinals. The Bobcats advanced with a 71-29 win over Arthur County. Ten players scored for South Loup led by Crew Witthuhn who finished with a game high 16 points. Also finishing in double figures for South Loup were Dylan Pandorf with 13 points and Conner Paulsen with 11.
On the other side of the bracket, Sandhills/Thedford knocked off Anselmo-Merna 54-49. The Knights will face Sandhills Valley in the semifinals. The top seed Mavericks defeated Brady 77-40.
The MNAC semifinals will take place Thursday at North Platte Community College. The girls semifinals will be first beginning with Mullen vs. Brady at 3 p.m. followed by Anselmo-Merna against Sandhills/Thedford. The boys semifinals will feature South Loup vs Twin Loup at 6 p.m. followed by Sandhills Valley vs Sandhills/Thedford.
