The South Loup football team is coming off one of their most successful seasons in team history finishing with an undefeated regular season, a district championship, and a Class D2 state semifinal appearance.  Speaking with the Callaway Courier, several players cited team chemistry as one of the keys to a successful season.  Junior Conner Paulsen said, “I think our speed and our team chemistry is our biggest strength this
season”.  Senior Harper Johnson agreed, and said he feels the team’s biggest
strength this year is “probably doing the little things right.”  Bobcats head coach Mat Jagelar told the Courier, “We lost a bunch last year but return a very good core group. Our depth is gonna be an issue, we need to bring some young kids along.  Look for AJ Starr, Connor Paulsen, and Ethan Furne to be very productive on the offensive side of the ball.”  The Bobcats open the season Thursday against Hemingford.

The South Loup volleyball team will look to improve on their 11-19 record from a year ago.  Michelle Preston enters her first season as the Lady Bobcats head coach.  Senior Greeley Hrupek told the Callaway Courier, “I would say our biggest strength as a team is how supportive the girls are of one another.  It’s great to be surrounded by girls who are competitive but still support and push each other to be the best they can be.”  The Bobcat volleyball team will kick off their 2024 season Sept. 3rd at the Mullen triangular with Mullen and Anselmo-Merna.  All three matches from the triangular will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and a live video stream of the matches, accompanied by the radio call, will also be available through sandhillsexpress.com

The South Loup cross country teams begin their season Thursday at the Burwell Invite.  This year’s girls team consists of seniors Ivy Tullis and Ella Cool.  The boys team consists of seniors Caleb McFate and Dawson Mason, juniors Josiah Coleman and Eli Rogers, sophomore Walter Bierman, and freshman Jaden Bush.  Head coach Nicole Recoy told the Callaway Courier, “Everyone ran extremely well last year at districts, so I am looking forward to watching them perform this season and see their growth.  This is a hardworking group of kids, and I am excited for our first meet at Burwell.”
