South Loup and Arcadia/Loup City Qualify Athletes for State Track

South Loup and Arcadia/Loup City were among the teams that competed at the C-8 district track and field championships in Kearney on Thursday.  Kearney Catholic won both the girls and boys district team titles and South Loup finished fourth in both team races.

The top two places in all field events and individual running events qualified for the state meet in Omaha next week and the winning team in all relays automatically qualified.  Additional qualifiers were added based on their performance.

Among the automatic qualifiers for South Loup was Ethan Furne.  Furne qualified in the boys long jump where he was the district champion with a winning effort of 21′ 9.25″.  Other automatic qualifiers for South Loup included Evalynn Wonch in the girls discus where she finished 2nd with an effort of 112′ 2″.  Ella Cool qualified in the girls 3200 placing 2nd in a time of 13:03.68.

Arcadia/Loup City’s Tyce Calleroz qualified for state in both the boys 100 and 200.  Calleroz was the district champion in the 100 with a winning time of 11.09 seconds and then claimed the title in the 200 with a winning time of 22.76.  Taylor Obermiller of ALC qualified for state in the girls 800.  Obermiller was the district champion in a winning time of 2:22.07.  Obermiller will also go to state in the 400 receiving one of the additional qualifier spots.

In the relays, South Loup qualified for state in the boys 4×100.  The team of Conner Paulsen, Dylan Pandorf, AJ Starr, and Ethan Furne posted a winning time of 44.27 seconds.  Arcadia/Loup City qualified in the boys 4×400.  The team of Ryan Kaslon, Eli Jaixen, Brogan Setlik, and Tyce Calleroz posted a winning time of 3:34.71.  South Loup qualified for state in the girls 4×400.  The team of Jade Bierman, Ivy Tullis, Ella Cool, and Erin Fitzgerald posted a winning time of 4:19.27.

Any additional qualifiers will be added to the story when released and posted by the NSAA.
