South Loup and Arcadia/Loup City Compete at District Track Today

Area athletes from South Loup and Arcadia/Loup City will attempt to qualify for the state track championships today as they compete at the Class C-8 district meet in Ord. Joining them in today’s meet will be Alma, Amherst, Gibbon, Hi-Line, Kearney Catholic, North Platte St. Pat’s, Ord, and Ravenna.

The top two places in each individual running event will qualify for the state meet. The next six fastest times of the non automatic qualifiers from all Class C districts will also qualify with a maximum of 24 qualifiers.

The championship team in each relay event will qualify for state plus the next seven fastest times of the non automatic qualifiers in Class C with a maximum of 16 qualifying teams.

The top two places in the girls and boys long jump, triple jump, shot put, and discus will qualify for the state meet plus the next six top performances of the non automatic qualifiers across all districts. The top two places in the girls and boys pole vault and high jump will qualify for state. One must clear a minimum height of 9’6″ in the boys pole vault to qualify and a minimum height of 6’6″ in the girls pole vault to qualify. All competitors who equal or exceed the additional qualifier mark in the pole vault and high jump will also qualify. The automatic qualifying heights are listed below.

Class C boys pole vault – 13′
Class C boys high jump – 6’1″
Class C girls pole vault – 10′
Class C girls high jump – 5’2″

The 2024 Class C state track and field championships will take place May 17th and 18th at Burke Stadium in Omaha.
