Six Man Football State Semifinals Preview - SEM vs Garden County on KBBN

The SEM Mustangs will attempt to advance to the six man football state championship game for the second year in a row when they host Garden County today in the six man football state semifinals. It will be the first meeting between the two teams this year. Both teams finished the regular season undefeated at 8-0. SEM has collected playoff wins against Wauneta Palisade (54-30) and against Diller-Odell 60-25 in the state quarterfinals. Garden County has advanced through the playoff bracket with a 50-23 win over Southwest in the opening round followed by a 22-20 win over Red Cloud in the state quarterfinals. KCNI/KBBN sports visited this week with SEM head coach Shane Hrasky about today’s matchup.

“Watched a little film on (Garden County) this week. Their a physical team. They like to line up an be real physical on both sides of the ball. They can run and pass on offense. It will be a good test for us and we’re glad to have a home game. It’s nice to have a home game for the semifinals.”

The Mustangs are looking to repeat as six man football state champions and are making their third straight appearance in the six man state semifinals. One of the keys to SEM’s recent success has been their physicality.

“It is. That’s our style of football. That’s how we want to play. That’s what we work on practice everyday. Being physical up front on both sides of the ball. That is our goal.”

The winner of today’s game will advance to the six man football state championship game which will take place next Friday (11/22) at Cope Stadium on the campus of UNK in Kearney. In today’s other six man semifinal, Hay Springs will host Stuart.
