On February 5th, Cohen Rohde of SEM signed his letter of intent to play college football for Doane University in Crete, NE. Rohde was an all state six man football selection this past season. The Lincoln Journal Star was among the publications that recognized Rohde naming him a first team selection on defense and named him honorary captain of the defensive team. Rohde recently took time to visit with KCNI/KBBN sports about his decision. He shared what made Doane the right fit for him.
“I really liked their coaching staff and the atmosphere out there. The facilities were nice and it just felt right.”
Rohde has been part of a great run for SEM football in recent years which included a state semifinal appearance in 2022, a state championship in 2023, and a state runner up finish this past season. Rohde said it’s been a great ride.
“We had a real good 3-4 years in my high school career. We only lost two games from my sophomore to senior year. When it was happening I didn’t really think about it too much. I was just wanting to win. But now that I think about it, it’s pretty special that I was able to be part of that.”
Rohde shared what he has loved most about the sport of football.
“I like that it’s not just a one man game. You can’t win the state championship with one good player. You’ve got to have six great athletes to do it and you have to all do it together.”
Rohde says he plans to study exercise science and pursue a career in physical therapy.
