SEM Wins District Title and Advances to State Volleyball

The SEM volleyball team qualified for the NSAA state volleyball championships by claiming the D1-6 district championship on Saturday.  SEM faced Elgin Public Pope John for the district title.  The Lady Mustangs were impressive winning 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-20).  Mikah O’Neill and Taryn Arbuthnot each had 14 kills in the match to lead the SEM attack as the Lady Mustangs improved to 27-5 on the season.  This will mark SEM’s first appearance at the state tournament since 2006.  SEM will be the #5 seed in the Class D1 tournament and will face Bruning Davenport Shickley in the state quarterfinals.  The match will be played at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln at 3 p.m. on Thursday, November 3rd.  Norfolk Catholic is the top seed in the D1 bracket and will face Nebraska Christian.  Cambridge is the #2 seed and will matchup with Cedar Catholic and Maywood Hayes Center is the #3 seed and will face Meridian.
