South Loup advanced to the Class D2 state football semifinals with a thrilling 28-22 win over previously unbeaten Central Valley. The Bobcats trailed 22-20 in the fourth quarter but put together a seven minute drive to eat up the clock and scored with under a minute remaining to pull out the win 28-22. South Loup improves to 11-0 and advances to the state semifinals where they will face Sandhills/Thedford. The Knights handed top seed Johnson Brock their first loss of the season. S/T pulled away big in the second half on their way to a 60-28 victory. Sandhills/Thedford improves to 10-1 and will face the team that handed them that loss – South Loup – next week. The two met back on September 15th with South Loup winning 48-34. The rematch will take place on November 10th with Sandhills/Thedford hosting. The winner will advance to the Class D2 state championship game.
SEM is back in the semifinals of the six man football playoffs for the second straight season. The Mustangs remained unbeaten by knocking off Stuart on the road 28-7. SEM will face Wilcox Hildreth in the semifinals. Wilcox Hildreth defeated Pawnee City 33-14. Wilcox Hildreth has just one loss this season and that was to SEM back on September 22nd when the Mustangs held on for a 28-22 victory. The rematch will be played on November 10th.
Broken Bow saw its season come to an end Friday night as they fell to Wahoo in the Class C1 state quarterfinals 12-7. Wahoo led 12-0 at the half but was held scoreless in the second half. The score remained 12-0 until Eli Coble scored from 1 yard out to cap off a 71 yard touchdown drive with 5:55 left in 4th quarter to bring the Indians to within 12-7. On the ensuing Wahoo possession, the Broken Bow defense came up with a takeaway forcing a Wahoo fumble which they recovered. Broken Bow drove to inside the Wahoo 30 yard line but then gave the ball back to the Warriors with a fumble of their own late in the game. Wahoo was able to keep possession and run out the clock to preserve the win. Wahoo advances to the state semifinals where they will meet Sidney who defeated Pierce 41-34. Broken Bow concludes their season at 7-4 overall.
