SEM Falls to Maywood Hayes Center in State Semi’s / Will Play Wynot in 3rd Place Game

SEM fell to Maywood Hayes Center Friday night in the Class D2 semifinals at the NSAA boys state basketball championships in Lincoln. SEM fell behind early in the 2nd quarter 20-12 but closed the quarter on a 16-6 run to take a 28-26 lead at halftime. The game was tied (39-39) at the end of the third but Maywood Hayes Center started the 4th quarter on a 9-0 run and held SEM scoreless until less than three minutes to play in the game. SEM made a charge late in the game but MHC would hang on in the end for a 53-48 victory. SEM was led by Jace Rosentreader who finished with a team high 16 points and Colt Schroeder also finished in double figures with 11. Jeremiah (Jerry) Ingison of Maywood Hayes Center led all scorers with a game high 21. SEM is now 18-8 on the season and will play Wynot Saturday afternoon in the Class D2 third place consolation game at Lincoln Northwest High School. The game is scheduled to tip off at 3 p.m. and will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com.

Maywood Hayes Center will face off against Shelton for the D2 state championship Saturday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Shelton defeated Wynot Friday evening in a triple overtime thriller 63-60. Shelton was led by Ashton Simmons who finished with a game high 34. The D2 championship will be the last of the six championship games today tipping off at 8:15 p.m.
