SEM Begins Play at State Volleyball Tournament on KBBN

SEM begins play at the D1 state volleyball tournament today in Lincoln at Pinnacle Bank Arena. This marks the second straight year that the Lady Mustangs have qualified for the state championships. SEM qualified for state with a straight set win over Nebraska Christian last Saturday to claim the D1-7 district title. SEM enters the tournament at 27-4. SEM is on a seven match winning streak and have won 21 of their last 22 matches entering the tournament. SEM is led by Mikah O’Neill who leads the team in kills with 433. SEM’s opponent in the state quarterfinals today will be St. Mary’s of O’Neill. St. Mary’s is 31-1 with their only loss coming to Summerland in five sets back on October 13th. Today’s match will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com. Match time is scheduled for 3 p.m. The winner will advance to the state semifinals on Friday and will play the winner of today’s Southwest / Elgin Public/Pope John match. Other D1 quarterfinal matches today include top seed Guardian Angels Central Catholic against Burwell. Burwell is making their first state tournament appearance since 1998. In the other D1 quarterfinal today, BDS (Bruning Davenport Shickley) takes on Amherst.
