SEM Advances to Girls State Basketball Tournament

The SEM girls basketball team claimed the D1-6 district championship Friday night. The Lady Mustangs traveled to Alma to face the Alma Cardinals for the district title. SEM trailed 47-42 going into the the 4th quarter but came back and dominated the final 8 minutes of regulation outscoring Alma 28-9 in the final quarter on their way to a 70-56 win. SEM was led by Mikah O’Neill who scored 14 of her game high 26 points in the 4th quarter. The Lady Mustangs sealed the game at the free throw line going 14 of 17 at the line in the final quarter. Also finishing in double figures for SEM were Taryn Arbuthnot who finished with 13 points and Cayleigh Jackson finished with 12. SEM improves to 18-4 this season and advances to the girls state tournament in Lincoln where they will play in the state quarterfinals on Wednesday. Central Nebraska’s Sports Source will broadcast all SEM games from the state tournament on KBBN 95.3 FM and on kbbn.com.
