It’s a special edition of high school football tonight on KBBN as Sandhills/Thedford hosts Burwell in Dunning. The Knights and Longhorns each enter tonight’s game at 1-1. Sandhills/Thedford fell in their season opener to Anselmo-Merna 36-34 but bounced back with a 33-24 win over Ainsworth last week. S/T head coach Tyson Cox told KCNI/KBBN sports that being physical and controlling the line of scrimmage will be key for the Knights success tonight.
“The key for the last two weeks is being physical. I felt like we weren’t in the greatest shape and we weren’t real physical against Anselmo-Merna. That’s a really good team, so not taking anything from them, but we need to be more physical and definitely win the line of scrimmage more.”
Burwell opened the season with a 47-12 win over Elgin Public Pope John but fell last week to top ten St. Mary’s of O’Neill 52-12. Burwell head coach Luke Gideon told KCNI/KBBN sports that it’s important for the Longhorns to bounce back this week.
“Yeah, I’ve been pleased for what we’ve got done in practice so far this week. Yes, we need to bounce back. That was a pretty tough loss we took, especially the way we played the first game. Going into the second game, we just made so many mistakes, especially on special teams, we gave up four touchdowns on special teams, kind of got ourselves in a hole. We never really got to play the game like we wanted to. Everything that happened last week we felt was correctable and that’s what we’re going to work on.”
Tonight’s game will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
