The Sandhills/Thedford girls basketball team saw its season come to an end Wednesday at the Class D2 girls state basketball tournament at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln as they fell to Howells/Dodge 52-44. Sandhills/Thedford led 29-27 at the half but was outscored in the second half 25-15. Howells/Dodge did not make a shot from the field in the 4th quarter but was 11 of 19 from the free throw line in the final eight minutes to hold off the Lady Knights and secure the win. Sandhills/Thedford had three players finish in double figures led by Dayle Haake who finished with a game high 15 points. Jaylen Dimmitt made four 3’s in the game and finished with 14 points. Laney Dahlberg also finished in double figures for S/T with 11. Sandhills/Thedford concludes the season with an overall record of 21-5.
Howells/Dodge moves on to the Class D2 semifinals where they will face top seed Overton. Overton and Paxton were tied 15-15 at halftime but the Lady Eagles would outscore Paxton 23-8 in the third quarter and pulled away in the second half for a 51-27 win.
The rest of the D2 first round will take place tonight when Falls City Sacred Heart plays Humphrey St. Francis followed by Wynot vs Plainview.
