Sandhills/Thedford Defeats Anselmo-Merna in Class D2 8-Man Football Opener

The high school football season kicked off Thursday night with a Class D2 8-Man football area matchup as defending Class D2 state champion Sandhills/Thedford hosted Anselmo-Merna in Dunning.  Sandhills/Thedford built a 46-8 halftime lead on their way to a 58-16 victory.  The Knights were led by Kyle Cox who finished with four rushing touchdowns including a 48 yard touchdown run in the first quarter which put S/T up 24-0.  Cox also had two interceptions on defense returning one for a touchdown in the second half.   Sandhills/Thedford was also able to score through the air as Carson Cooksley connected with Maurice Robinson for a 40 yard TD pass in the first half and Thatcher Teahon connected with Mason Sutton on an 11 yard TD pass in the second half.

Kayden Record had two touchdown passes for Anselmo-Merna connecting with Josiah Griffith on 16 yard TD toss and connecting with Dane Duryea for a 28 yard touchdown pass.
