Sandhills/Thedford and Mullen Claim D8 District Track Team Titles

Several teams from the KCNI/KBBN coverage area were among those that competed Wednesday at the D8 district track and field championships in Paxton.

Sandhills/Thedford claimed the girls district team championship with 85 points. The Lady Knights won both the 4×100 and 4×400 meter relays and claimed three individual event district titles including Tenley Rasmussen in the 100, Dayle Haake in the 100 meter hurdles, and Taylor Weber in the 800.

Mullen won the boys team championship with 76 points. The Broncos were led by Clayton Moore who claimed district titles in both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, was runner-up in the long jump, and was a member of the district champion 4×400 meter relay team. Mullen’s Kyle Finney was the district champion in the boys 3200 meter run.

Other individual highlights from area athletes included Tad Dimmitt of Sandhills Valley winning both the boys shot put and discus.  Mullen’s Peyton Paxton was district champion in the girls 3200 and 1600 meter run. Taryn Arbuthnot of SEM qualified for state in three individual events winning the girls high jump and 400 and placed 2nd in the girls long jump.

Brodie Stengel of Sandhills/Thedford second in the boys 1600
Tierston Moore of Mullen second in the girls 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles
Jaxton Starr of Sandhills Valley second in the boys 110 meter hurdles
Isaac O’Brien of Ansley/Litchfield second in the boys 800
Chase Gracey of Mullen second in the boys 300 meter hurdles
Tenley Rasmussen of Sandhills/Thedford second in the girls 200
