A letter of intent signing celebration was held for Broken Bow senior Ruby Russell who announced that she will be attending Concordia University in Seward, NE and joining their college softball program. Russell shared what drew her to choosing Concordia.
“Yeah, so I went to the recruiting camp a year ago about today and I really loved the atmosphere of the team and I really clicked with the coach there. And so I decided to go on a college visit later in the summer and the campus is beautiful and I just really felt like it was home there and I really liked the small town atmosphere too. It just felt like just like here. So then I met with the team and got to scrimmage with them a little bit and everybody was super welcoming and I just I really clicked with everybody. So that’s kind of why I chose to play at Concordia.”
Russell has developed her love and talent for the sport through the Broken Bow Spirit summer softball program. Russell shared what Spirit softball has meant to her and how it has helped prepare her for this moment.
“So I started playing Spirit probably when I was like 11. So I’ve played for a long time and Anson Bumgarner has been my coach all throughout those years. In Spirit, it really has shaped me into the person I am today. Just even my teammates and like I said, Anson and everybody throughout the program that’s helped me get to this point and believe that I can be here. But yeah, especially Anson, he’s really, he pushes you to be your best and to show up every day and work hard. So yeah.”
Russell says she plans to study physical therapy while attending Concordia University.
