Paxton Track Invite – Anselmo-Merna Wins Boys Team Title and Mullen Wins Girls Title

Anselmo-Merna, Sandhills Valley, and Mullen were among the teams that competed Thursday at the Paxton Track Invite. Anselmo-Merna won the boys team championship with 95 points. Hyannis was runner up with 91 points and Mullen was third with 64. Mullen won the girls team title with 139 points with Paxton runner up at 86 points.

Among the area highlights, Destrey White and Colin Wright of Anselmo-Merna finished first and second in the boys high jump. Each cleared the winning height of 5′ 10″ with White winning the event on the tie break and Wright finished second. White also finished as the runner up in the boys long jump. Lily Thornton of Anselmo-Merna was runner up in the girls discus with an effort of 112′ 7″ which was just one inch behind the winner Reece Glinn of Paxton. Tate Kvanvig of Mullen won the boys shot put with an effort of 45′ 7″ and Colton Miller of Sandhills Valley was runner up. Miller of Sandhills Valley would win the boys discus in a winning effort of 148’1″. Devanee Connell of Sandhills Valley won the girls triple jump with an effort of 32′ 5″ and Trevor Duryea of Anselmo-Merna won the boys triple jump with an effort of 41′ 6″.

In the running events, Alex Werner of Mullen won the boys 100 in a time of 11.5 seconds with Colin Wright of Anselmo-Merna finishing in 2nd. Werner also won the boys 400 in a time of 51.93 seconds and claimed his third individual gold when he won the 200 in a time of 23.36 seconds.   Brynne McCully of Mullen won the girls 100 in a time of 13.7 and Luella Joedeman of Sandhills Valley was second. McCully also took gold in the 400 with a winning time of 1:05.45 and claimed her third individual gold when she won the girls 200 in a time of 28.12.  Mullen’s Chloe Newman was second in both the girls 200 and 400.  Tim Myers of Anselmo-Merna won the boys 110 meter hurdles in a time of 16.87 seconds and Rhoshykee Bruns of Sandhills Valley was second.  Harper Andersen of Mullen won the girls 800 in a time of 2:38.21 and Isaac Goosey of Sandhills Valley won the boys 800 in a time of 2:05.7. Other area runner up finishes included Peyton Paxton of Mullen in the girls 1600, Shayleigh Coleman of Anselmo-Merna in the girls 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles, Riley Hegland of Mullen in the girls 3200 and Cayden Hampton of Mullen in the boys 300 meter hurdles.

In the relays, Mullen won the girls 4×800 relay. The team of Peyton Paxton, Ady Hampton, Riley Hegland, and Harper Andersen posted the winning time of 10:39.78. Mullen won the girls 4×100. The team of Ella Rice, Chloe Newman, Kalli Licking, and Georgia Wingebach posted the winning time of 54.92. Mullen completed the sweep of the girls relays winning the 4×400. The team of Harper Andersen, Jenna Donohoe, Cloe Newman, and Brynne McCully had the winning time of 4:32.05. Anselmo-Merna won the boys 4×100. The team of Josiah Griffith, Coling Wright, Dane Duryea, and Destrey White had the winning time of 45.85.
