Mother Nature was a major player in the opening day of the NSAA boys state golf championships on Tuesday. The opening day of the Class C state tournament in Columbus was cancelled Tuesday because of weather and course conditions. The Class C tournament will now be an 18 hole event which will be played Wednesday at Elks Country Club in Columbus. Among the competitors will be Broken Bow’s Jack White who is scheduled to begin his round on the back nine today on hole #10 at 9:10 Wednesday morning.
The Class D state tournament is being played at Lake Maloney golf club in North Platte. After a 2 hour delayed start, golfers were able to finish their opening round on Tuesday. After day one, just ten shots separated the top four teams in the team standings. Overton leads with a day one team score of 336. Anselmo-Merna sits in 12th after a day one team score of 373. South Loup sits in 15th after a day one with a 387 team score.
Tyson Essex of Loomis is atop the individual leaderboard after day one after shooting an even par round of 72. Aaron Bartak of Anselmo-Merna sits in a tie for 10th after day one with an opening round of 7 over par 79. Brady Haake of Sandhills/Thedford is tied for 13th after an opening round of 80 and Colin Cooksley of Anselmo-Merna is tied for 15th after an opening round of 81.
