NSAA Approves Shot Clock for Basketball and Two Classes for Girls Wrestling

LINCOLN, Neb. – The NSAA approved major changes to its administration and some of its premier sports at its April meeting on Thursday.

There will be a 35-second shot clock in Nebraska high school basketball for all classes starting next season. The proposal passed 6-2. Class A adopted the shot clock two seasons ago and Class B implemented it for this past season. Some have raised concerns about added expenses for technology and about the challenges of finding extra staff to operate the shot clock.

Girls high school wrestling has a second class in Nebraska starting next season. The board voted 8-0 to add Class B. The first NSAA-sanctioned girls wrestling season was 2021-2022.

Jennifer Schwartz was named the new NSAA Executive Director. She had been the interim executive director since Dec. 2022. The board voted 6-2 to award her a two-year contract.
