Norfolk Catholic, Pierce,

Three more Nebraska state football championships were decided on Tuesday at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.

Norfolk Catholic, appearing in its 19th state championship game, shutout Cedar Catholic 23-0 to win the Class C2 state football title. Norfolk Catholic’s defense controlled the game holding Cedar Catholic to 147 yards of total offense. Norfolk Catholic dominated the time of possession holding the ball for over 31 minutes. Kanyon Talton, Karter Kerkman, and Brandon Kollars each had touchdown runs for the victorious Knights. It was Norfolk Catholic’s 11th NSAA state football championship.

The Pierce Bluejays claimed the Class C1 state championship defeating number one Aurora 42-14. The game was tied 14-14 at halftime but Pierce dominated the second half including a 22 point 4th quarter as the Bluejays pulled away. Pierce put up 452 total yards including 293 passing yards. Ben Brahmer was the star of the game setting a Class C1 state championship record with 249 receiving yards on 11 catches including three touchdowns. It’s the fifth NSAA state football championship for Pierce and their second in the last three years.

Bennington claimed their second straight Class B championship with a 38-14 win over Omaha Gross Catholic. Bennington was led by quarterback Trey Bird who completed 13 of 20 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns.
