Nebraska High School Rodeo Weekend Recap

It was a busy weekend for Nebraska High School rodeo contestants with rodeo competition on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

On Friday it was the Panhandle Rodeo held at the Sioux County fairgrounds in Harrison.  Cayson Johnston of Stapleton was the boys all around champion Friday.  Johnston won the steer wrestling in a winning time of 4.42 seconds and teamed with Reese Swanson of Arthur to win the team roping in a time of 7.17 seconds.  Other area highlights on Friday included Jason Ducker Kursave of Arcadia winning the bull riding with a score of 74.

On Saturday it was the Harrison Rodeo also held at the Sioux County fairgrounds arena.  Area highlights included Slate Micheel of Sargent winning the steer wrestling in a time of 6.9 seconds and Lillian Fletcher of Arnold placed first in the breakaway roping with a time of 2.68 seconds.

On Sunday the competition moved to Crawford, NE.  Area highlights on Sunday included Gracie Pearson of Broken Bow winning the girls cutting with a high score of 72.5.

Nebraska high school rodeo contestants will now prepare for the Nebraska State High School Finals Rodeo which will take place this week in Burwell.  The first go round is scheduled for Friday (6/9) with performances at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.  The second go round is scheduled for Saturday (6/10) with performances at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.  The short go will take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday (6/11).  The top four in the final standings of each event will qualify for the National High School Finals Rodeo July 16th – July 22nd.  The National Finals will take place in Gillette, Wyoming.
